Vinegar Tasting Parties

One of the most enjoyable activities vinegar connoisseurs can do is to sponsor vinegar tasting parties. These parties offer the benefit of bringing together some of the most interesting people in the world. But they also bring together some of the most interesting vinegars in the world along with some very interesting foods prepared from vinegar.

Next time you are looking for a great party idea,  assemble twenty or more different kinds of vinegar, a vinegar pie, a vinegar cake, some vinegar cheese, home made mustards and sauces. Then call up some friends and tell them they are invited to a vinegar tasting party. Ask them to bring a unique kind of vinegar and prepare one dish of their choice using vinegar.

The main event of this party might be the vinegar tasting. You could do the vinegar tasting the traditional way or you could conduct a less formal vinegar tasting using a dip made from mayonnaise.

Prepare a tasting dip by adding;  1 teaspoon of your favorite vinegar

   to

 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise

The exact proportions may be varied depending on the type of vinegar, the type of mayonnaise, and the desired taste.

Ten to 20 different dips and a few baskets of unsalted crackers or bread sticks and you are on your way to a unique event.

Set out salt-free crackers, bread sticks,  even celery or other bland vegetables. Label the dips well. Pass out comment slips or score sheets for each of the guest. Invite your guest comment and or score the various dips and other recipes. Exchange recipes.  Discuss suggestions for improvement of the recipes.

And there could be a lot of discussion around the various vinegars people bring.

You could also tabulate the scores or review the comments at the end of the party or in a follow up form letter to all of the guests.

Now you gotta admit you don't go to a party like this every weekend.
