Vinegar cures a lot of things,
but not everything

There are many medical problems which can be partially or completely solved with vinegar and we will introduce you to many of them.  However it is equally important to discourage the further distribution of myths about vinegar.

One of the persistent rumors about vinegar is that it will cure arthritis.  This rumor is persistent because so many people seem to have gotten relief from this painful affliction by drinking  unpasteurized, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and honey.  There various other ingredients which individuals add to this cocktail,  but the basic formula is always apple cider vinegar and honey.

To date there is no scientific evidence that any kind of vinegar or vinegar cocktail will cure or relieve the pain of arthritis.  I should mention also that it doesn’t seem that scientists are all that interested in providing evidence either.  I can’t find any studies aimed at finding out why so many people think it will work.  Is it a placebo?

However, if we ask ourselves how vinegar works in the body to cure arthritis, we find it hard to come up with an explanation which will endure objective questioning.

Many people offer the testimonies of people who have tried it with success. However the fact that great numbers of people over many years have sworn by vinegar as a cure for arthritis has to be balanced with the fact that great numbers of people have tried vinegar for arthritis and it didn’t work for them.

We hear a lot more about the people who win at gambling than the ones who lose.  We get the truth about gambling when we compare the numbers of winners against the numbers of winners.

Many people also swear by vinegar as a cure for upset stomach.  I have used vinegar for this myself on occasion and it seems to have worked.  However I have to recommend against it at this time for a couple of reasons.  The first is that,  sometimes it didn’t work.  The second is that, sometimes vinegar made it worse.

The stomach is always playing a balancing act to get the right acid and base balance.  It usually doesn’t get much help from us. The result is that sometimes the stomach is to base or alkaline and sometimes it is to acid.  If it is too base then adding an acid like vinegar could help.  However if it is to acid,  the problem could be made worse.  The problem is that the symptoms of both conditions feel pretty much the same so we don’t know whether to take vinegar,  baking soda or burnt toast as a remedy.  If I had to gamble,  I’d put my money on the burnt toast, even though I am not nor ever have been a member of Burnt Toast Connoisseurs International.
